At my last job, I was the expert. I had worked at the same place for 16 years and had tons of institutional knowledge. I was the one people asked when they had a question about how a publishing system worked, or why it didn’t work the way it was expected to. At my new job, which I started last week, I’m the newbie learning all new programs along with different ways of doing things. That’s OK, I realize, because it’s good to learn new things. And I’m working with a great team of people who have been really helpful.
But how I wish I could learn faster. That there was some switch I could flip and everything I need to know would just flow into my brain! It would make it so much easier. But, as I recall in my old job, it also took awhile to gain all that institutional knowledge, so I guess I’ll just have make my peace with it taking the appropriate time. Now if only patience was something I had more of!
