2015_Day 105: A reprieve for beans, I think

Peas and beans, April 15.

Peas and beans, April 15.

Good news on the bean front. At least I hope so. Showed the photos of spots and holes to an employee at a local nursery, and he thinks the spots are just a fungus from wet conditions.

I’ve been watering in the evening, when the leaves don’t have time to dry before it gets dark, leaving them wet overnight and susceptible to fungus, I’m told. I should be watering in the morning, when the leaves will dry in the warmth of the sun. Makes sense, I guess.

The holes, the nursery man said, are probably from snails.

That’s odd, I said. I haven’t seen any snails.

Do you look at your garden at night? The snails are nocturnal, he said.

Well, I guess that explains it, I said.

Regardless, it doesn’t sound like I have anything to worry about, as long as I watch when I water. I hope so. That would be a really easy solution.

Here are a few more garden photos for you to enjoy.

Tomatoes and sweet red peppers.

I think I'll actually have fresh lettuce for a salad soon!

Oh happy days, I’m so glad to hear your beans are not destined for their demise…. I too made the mistake a while back watering in the evening.. found out that’s bad… it brought in more of the earwigs, because they adore damp, dark places …
Your garden is looking wonderful in these pictures, and I can’t wait until it warms up enough here to get my plants outside to harden off…

Take care and happy blogging to ya, from Laura ~
