D(irt) Day arrived today and it was delivered right on time. I had about 3 hours after work and before it got too dark to put the weed fabric down and start filling the raised beds with beautiful soil made up of 40 percent compost, 40 percent loam, 10 percent bank sand and 10 percent granite sand. Wishful thinking had me confident I’d get it all done. Didn’t quite work out that way.
Even with help from a neighbor and her sweetheart of a little girl, we still didn’t get it all hauled to the backyard. I wish I wouldn’t have listened to husband, who insisted the soil be put on the driveway – in the front of the house. That meant every load had to be carried to the far back of the lot line. We don’t have a big lot, but it still seemed like a long way to haul it. Wish I would have had the landscaping company dump it on the lawn near the gate to the fenced-in backyard. Would have been a lot less work. My back would definitely be thanking me now. And I probably would have been able to haul a lot more.
Now I’m just hoping any significant rain holds off til late tomorrow so I can fill the flower bed. I’m pretty sure I’m going to have more left over, too, so I’m going to have to find those pots I mentioned the other day to accent the flower bed. Either that or put an ad on Craigslist.
Dirt anyone?
