2015_Day 131: Flower, veggie Monday mishmash

I love the mini-zinnias that are now flowering in my three-tiered bed. they’re just so darn cute, aren’t they? Continue reading

2015_Day 130: A day for moms

Like most Sunday mornings, I was the first to get out of bed, relishing my time in a quiet house, enjoying a little CBS Sunday Morning, and on this Mother’s Day Sunday, a beautiful bouquet of red roses. Continue reading

2015_Day 129: Super Sweet 100s thriving

A week or two ago, I wondered aloud whether the tomatoes in my garden were getting bushy enough. I’m used to Super Sweet 100 plants that are so tall and so bushy that they almost pull over the tomato cages that are supposed to be supporting them. Continue reading

2015_Day 128: Friday flowers

Two more cosmos flowers–light pink and dark pink–were blooming when I got home from work. If this keeps up, the three-tiered flower bed will be full of blooms within a week.

My backyard will be beautiful!

2015_Day 127: There’s no place like home

While I enjoy taking trips–even if they’re for work–the best thing about them is coming home. This week’s trip to the Chicago area eas no different. It was an exhilarating three days of meeting new people, learning more about the company I work for and team building. But you know what was better? Continue reading

2015_Day 126: Never too early to start thinking next year

Marigold seeds.

Marigold seeds.

I don’t usually think about saving seeds for next year in May, when flowers have barely started blooming. Then again, as I’ve come to understand, things are different in Texas. When I left home Monday midday, the cosmos and zinnias in my three-tier bed were full of buds, so I can’t wait to see what they’ll be like when I return from my work conference Thursday night. It would be cool to see flowers in bloom. Continue reading

2015_Day 124: Flying high with the clouds

If you like photos of clouds, this post is for you. I flew from Austin to Chicago with a co-worker for work today, and offered to switch seats with her so she could have an aisle seat. Little did she know I love window seats because I love looking at clouds. Continue reading

2015_Day 123: Food for the tomatoes, beans, peas

image
Feeding a garden something other than water is new to me, but I’m giving it a try. Today, I put a mix of nitrogen, phosphate and potash in the dirt near my tomatoes, beans and peas in hopes that the tomatoes might get bushier and something — anything — might come from the beans and peas that are left. Continue reading

2015_Day 122: Saturday night at the ballfield

I’m not much of a baseball fan, but occasionally I like to go to a minor league or collegiate summer league game. Tonight, husband took me to my first Round Rock Express game. The Express is a triple A team, affiliated with the Texas Rangers. Continue reading
