The cabinet we had built by Jim Pfau of Pavo Real Furniture was delivered today by Pfau himself. He even set up the two pieces with husband. Apparently he likes to deliver all the pieces he creates to see where they’re going to reside. Continue reading

2015_Day 221: That’s a lot of aloe
I know aloe has healing powers and even have used it myself, but I was somewhat surprised to see huge leaves of it for sale recently at a local grocery store. There it was in the produce section, between some citrus fruits, I think. Continue reading
2015_Day 210: Cabinet update – color changes

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the photos of the custom cabinet we’re having built out of reclaimed wood. It’s unbelievably gorgeous, even if it is a different color than I had originally thought I wanted. Husband and I went out to Pavo Real Furniture last Saturday to get our first in-person look and talk to owner Jim Pfau about the color. Continue reading
2015_Day 201: A distressed but beautiful blue
A month ago today, I wrote about my desire to have a cabinet custom built for an odd shaped area of our house. Husband and I had met Jim and Carolyn Pfau at Poppy Days in Georgetown back in April and then saw Jim again at Fredericksburg Trade Days in June. Jim creates signature pieces from reclaimed and distressed wood and metal and I was instantly intrigued by the Pavo Real Furniture. Continue reading
2015_Day 184: I want my own fixer-upper project
Thursday nights on HGTV are set aside for “Fixer Upper,” hosted by Chip and Joanna Gaines, who take on home-renovation projects in or near Waco, Texas. Friday morning was set aside by me to pay a visit to Magnolia Market, Joanna’s shop in Waco that sells a lot of the furnishings you see on the show. I wasn’t disappointed. Continue reading

2015_Day 175: Tired evenings a drag
A couple years ago, I went through a long stretch where I had a hard time staying awake in the early evenings. I would sit down in my chair after supper, and I’d zonk out. It didn’t matter if it was 7 p.m. or 9:30 p.m. Reading would put me out. Ditto for watching TV. Sometimes I’d only doze off for 10 or 15 minutes, but suddenly I’d feel my neck bobbing (sleeping while sitting in a chair is a terrible thing for a bad neck) or more embarrassing, hear daughter sighing or giggling. Continue reading
2015_Day 171: Saturday showers and shining stars
Four months after originally planning to visit the monthly Fredericksburg Trade Days, husband and I finally made it there. It was a rain-soaked trip but worth it. The drive into Hill Country alone almost made the trip worth it and made me wish we had found the time to do it during peak wildflower season. Continue reading
2015_Day 163: It’s finally time to start decorating my walls
Get Local if You Don’t Want to Get Dirty
2015_Day 160: While I doubt my family will ever go all-in on the plant-based diet, buying local is certainly something we could (and should) do better at. I’m reblogging Shannon’s DirtNKids post as a reminder to come back to it for further reading when we get back from our vacation to Wisconsin. Thanks Shannon!
