2015_Day 153: A vacation from gardening

Leaving for weeklong vacation in Wisconsin tomorrow. Can’t wait to see family and friends. But I’m a little anxious about leaving the garden untended. It finally has stopped raining here in central Texas, and with sunny skies and 90s forecast for the next week, I sure hope the automatic sprinkler system works. Continue reading

2015_Day 152: Still waitin’ on cukes

I’m hoping the sunshine that’s in the forecast for the next 7-10 days means the cucumbers will be producing soon. I had hoped to have one by the time we went on vacation, but that’s not going to happen. Continue reading

2015_Day 151: Beans giving one last hurrah

While I don’t really expect to see any actual beans growing from the decimated bean plants in my garden, it’s nice to see a few green leaves and flowers rise up out of the brown stalks. Continue reading

2015_Day 150: Where’d the dirt go?

While many parts of Texas were cleaning up from historic flooding and tornado damage on this Memorial Day weekend Sunday, we were fortunate to mostly get missed by the bad weather. We just got rain-another 2 1/2 inches-and some wind. Continue reading

2015_Day 143: Soaked but still pretty

Despite the lots and lots of rain and wind we’ve been getting, the cosmos are pretty – and pretty rain-soaked. hopefully they will make it through the night. Tornado warning as I write this – lots of lightning, thunder, rain and strong winds. Continue reading

2015_Day 141: Flower power is peace, happiness

No matter what my day is like, I can always count on the flowers in my backyard to make me smile. They make a good day even better and a crappy day more than bearable. Continue reading

2015_Day 140: Seeing yellow, I think

I may be a little paranoid, but I think my cucumber leaves are turning yellow. Or at least the tops of them. We’ve had a lot of rain lately, so I’m wondering if that’s the culprit. Or maybe it’s just that the younger leaves are yellow and will turn darker green as they mature. Continue reading
